Calm Dogs, Loud Body
I’m currently dog sitting. Plural. There are also two cats. And honestly? They’re all pretty calm.
No destruction. No constant barking and whining. No chaos. Just sweet girls, naps in sunbeams, routine outs, and a house that feels steady.
Which is funny, because the animals haven’t been the hard part at all.
When Your Body Hits Pause
Two days ago, I was taken out by a migraine that kept me laid up until the afternoon.
The kind that comes with a clogged head, pressure behind the eyes, and that foggy, pressure‑packed feeling that makes even small tasks feel loud. And the nausea that traps you in place. I’m chalking it up to weather changes and barometric pressure. Either way, plans didn’t matter much once my body decided otherwise.
It was a reminder I don’t always love receiving: You can have a calm environment and still need to stop.
The House Was Quiet. My Head Was Not.
While I was sick, the dogs were fine. Curled up nearby. Patient. Gentle.
Which somehow made it more obvious that the disruption wasn’t external.
Sometimes it’s not the workload, the noise, or the responsibilities piling up.
Sometimes it’s just your nervous system tapping out. And that still counts.
A Dog Bite and a Reality Check
And recently, I also got a pretty solid dog bite. Not from the dogs I’m watching, they’re absolute sweethearts. This was from a friend’s dog.
I’m a dog person. I pay attention. I read body language. I respect boundaries.
And still, dogs are animals. Even good dogs. Even familiar dogs. Even in moments when you think you’re being careful.
It was a sharp reminder that things can happen quickly, and that awareness, space, and caution always matter, especially when assumptions creep in.
Calm Doesn’t Mean Easy
This season isn’t chaotic. But it is layered.
A calm house. A recovering body. An injury reminder. Work continuing quietly in the background.
And that’s worth acknowledging. If you’re moving slower right now, even when things look “fine” from the outside, you’re not doing it wrong.
Sometimes life is quiet.
And still heavy.
